In Out and About
Dalston Square

In, Out and About Dalston Square is a project based on Dalston’s community, in London. It is a series of self-portraits of the people who wished to collaborate on this project. The idea was to set up a large format camera in Dalston Square and invite passers by to take a picture of themselves, in order to create a portrayal of a particular community at a particular time.

Dalston Square es un proyecto basado en la comunidad de Dalston, en Londres. Consiste en una serie de autorretratos de las personas que desearon colaborar en este proyecto. La idea era instalar una cámara de gran formato en Dalston Square e invitar a los transeúntes a tomarse una foto a sí mismos, con el fin de crear un retrato de una comunidad en particular en un momento específico.

Moved by the experience doing In, Out and About Dalston Square, I decided to take this project to another community, Peckham in South East London.

In Out and About
Artists

The project started as a collaboration with Brit-Es, a contemporary art magazine, for their first on-paper issue. We decided that, the images that will illustrate the artists in one of the articles featured, would be pictured along the same lines as In Out and About. 
Artists and creators are generally work on their own awareness of their surroundings, whether is socially, politically, environmentally, musically, ect. Their artwork represents these viewpoints, sometimes an obsession of these observations. So I started to question, how would they like to be represented if they have the choice to create their own image?

Este proyecto comienza como una colaboración con Brit-Es, una revista de arte contemporáneo para su primer número impreso. Para esta colaboración decidimos que las imágenes que ilustrarían a los artistas presentados en uno de sus artículos sería siguiendo la línea de In Out and About.
Por lo general, lxs artistas y creadorxs trabajan sobre la conciencia que poseen de lo que les rodea, ya sea a nivel social, político, ambiental, musical ect. Sus obras representan esta conciencia, a veces llevada a la obsesión. Esto me generaba una pregunta, ¿cómo querrán ser representadxs cuándo se les da la opción de crear su propia imagen?
